Brand Information

1967년 싱어송라이터이자 기타리스트인 Marc Bolan이 결성한 글램록밴드 T.Rex 는 마크볼란의 묘하게 매력적인 중성적인 보이스로 록 역사에 큰 획을 그은 밴드 중 하나입니다. 본래 Tyrannosaurus Rex 라는 변드명으로 사이키델릭 포크 음악을 발표하였지만, 1969년 밴드의 음악 스타일을 일렉트릭 록으로 변경하며 T. Rex로 활동하게 됩니다. 1970년 "Ride a White Swan"이라는 노래로 글램록 무브먼트의 선구자로 우뚝서게 됩니다. 1970년 부터 1973년 까지 T. Rex는 영국에서 비틀즈와 비슷한 인기를 얻었으며 영국 상위 10위권에서 11개의 싱글을 기록하기도 하였습니다. 이런 상업적인 성공의 밑바탕에는 T. Rex의 시적이고 초현실 적인 가사 그리고 감각적인 그루브가 있었지만, 1977년 보컬 Bolan의 자동차 사고로 인한 사망으로 그룹은 해체되었습니다. 하지만 그들의 음악은 후속 아티스트들에게 지속적인 영향을 미치며 2020년에 로큰롤 명예의 전당에 입성하게 됩니다.

1968년 Tyrannosaurus Rex로 데뷔한 이래 7번째 정규앨범과 동시에 T. Rex로 개명이래 3번째 앨범인 The Slider는 1972년 7월 21일 발매되었습니다. 대표적인 싱글로 영국에서 12주 동안 차트에 머물며 1위를 기록하기도 한 "Telegram Sam"과 마찬가지로 14주 동안 차트에 머물며 1위를 기록하기도 한 "Metal Guru"가 수록된 본 앨범은, 비평가들의 호평속에 영국 차트 4위, 미국차트 17위에 오른 명반입니다. 앨범커버의 사진은 The Beatles의 Ringo Starr가 촬영해준 것으로 유명한데, John Lennon의 소유지인 Tittenhurst Park에서 다큐멘터리를 촬영하던 도중 흑백필름으로 촬영하였다고 합니다. The Smiths의 Johnny Marr가 자신이 제일 좋아하는 앨범으로 꼽기도 한 "The Slider"는 T. Rex를 절대적인 글램 록의 왕으로 인정받게한 앨범 중 하나입니다.
